MARIETTA, Ga. --- Life University Director of Athletics
Jayme Pendergast announced Thursday morning the hiring of CJ Shearer as the new men's volleyball head coach.
Shearer has been involved with NAIA volleyball since 2014 with experience at Webber International University and Reinhardt University. While assisting with the women's team for the last four seasons, he was selected to lead the men's volleyball program in their inaugural season. Shearer quickly built a program that turned heads within the Mid-South Conference at both Webber International and at Reinhardt, where he was instrumental in the formation of a men's volleyball program at both institutions. In his two years at the helm of the Reinhardt team, Shearer coached a pair of First Team MSC All-Conference honorees and one honorable mention athlete.
Pendergast expanded on her confidence in the experience Shearer brings to the table stating, "We are looking to build a championship program with an equally strong focus on growing our men's volleyball student athletes as students and people. We believe we are set up for a lot of success and CJ emerged as a strong leader for our program. He was able to articulate his vision for the program and how to sell Life University volleyball under his leadership. I have a lot of respect for Reinhardt and their programs so I know CJ will transition well. I'm really looking forward to supporting CJ in his pursuit of getting us to the national tournament, and giving our student athletes a first class experience."
Shearer expressed his appreciation and excitement stating, "I am beyond blessed to be given the opportunity to lead the Life U Men's Volleyball program. I want to thank Jayme for believing in the vision I have moving forward. I intend to build on the foundation already established and help create young men of integrity, while pushing to become a contender at the highest level. I look forward to working with this incredibly driven and talented athletic department, and will do my part to meet those high standards."
