After Strong Winter, Life University Climbs into Top Five in Learfield Directors’ Cup

By Nick Pope: Sports Information Director

After an impressive winter season that saw Life University claim the fourth-best NAIA total of 495 points, the athletic department has broken into the top five in the annual Learfield Directors' Cup standings.

Life University now sits at 563.25 total points following the fall and winter seasons, with only the spring season remaining before final rankings are released.

The Running Eagles brought home a pair of team trophies, as women's wrestling captured its second consecutive NAIA National Championship while men's wrestling once again finished as national runner-up.

Men's basketball also continued its postseason consistency, returning to the NAIA National Tournament for the third time in four years.

Our performance in the Learfield Director’s Cup is reflective of the talented student-athletes and staff we have at Life University, as well as the alignment/buy in into our department vision. I’m really proud of both the depth and breadth of the opportunities for Life U student-athlete to have national championship experiences, as this is something we intentionally build strategy around. We need to finish the academic year strong, but also celebrate a strong fall and winter season.
Director of Athletics, Jayme Pendergast

The final Learfield Directors’ Cup standings will be released in June. The Learfield Directors’ Cup, developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and USA Today, awards points based on each institution’s highest finish in 13 sports at their respective national championships.
