2025-26 Men's Basketball Season Recap

2025-26 MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON RECAP 

  • The Life University Men's Basketball team posted a 20-11 record overall and went 12-6 in SSAC play.
  • The team went on to the SSAC tournament, beating Loyola University New Orleans to clinch a spot in the Semifinals.
  • After reaching the SSAC Semifinals, the team secured an at-large bid to the National Tournament as an 11 seed and traveled to Georgetown, Ky.
  • The team boasted 1 First Team All-Conference Player, 1 Second Team All-Conference Player, 1 All-Freshman Team Player, 1 Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, and 2 Conference Scholar-Athletes.
  • Shane Stevensen was named Newcomer of the Year and awarded the SSAC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his work on the court and in the classroom.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Life University Men's Basketball team earned its first ranked win by defeating 25th-ranked Keiser University 73-71. All five starters scored in double-digits and the team recorded 20 assists.
  • Then, 6 days later, Life took down the 5th-ranked team in the nation and eventual National Champions, Freed-Hardeman University. (Tenn.) 85-79. The Running Eagles capitalized on 40 points coming from the paint, and six players scored in the double figures.
  • These two victories, along with a seven-game winning streak, propelled Life to 7th in the national rankings.

 

Recap vs #25 Keiser | Recap vs #5 Freed-Hardemen Uni.

  • The Life University Men's Basketball program earned an at-large bid into the NAIA National Tournament after a strong regular season and conference tournament showing.
  • This was the second consecutive National Tournament appearance and the teams 3rd appearance in 4 years.
  • Earning a #11 seed, the program traveled to Georgetown, Ky., to face Bethel in the #6 vs #11 matchup.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • The Life University Men's basketball team was well honored at the 2025 SSAC Basketball Banquet.
  • Shane Stevensen took home the Southern States Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, the Southern States Newcomer of the Year award, along with an All-Conference First Team honor, and an All-Tournament team selection.
  • Shane Stevensen also joined the 1000-point club as a Running Eagle.
  • Both Josh Baugher and and Shane Stevensen were selected to the SSAC Scholar-Athlete Team.
  • Josh Baugher brought home SSAC All-Conference Second Team honors, Srdjan Popovic earned recognition as a Winter Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, and Sergio Corta was named to the SSAC All-Freshman Team.
