Patrick Sonsteng

Patrick Sonsteng begins his fifth season as the head men's and women’s swimming coach at Life University in 2021-22. Sonsteng’s has cultivated a new program at Life – The inaugural season of 2017 the men’s team reached its highest finish at NAIA Nationals, in addition to its first All- American performances and conference champion. In his inaugural season Sonsteng led the running eagles to a fifth-place finish for the men and sixth-place finish for the women at the Mid-South Conference Championships. In years following Sonsteng has been awarded Mid-South Conference 2019 Men’s Coach of the Year, set three new Mid-South Conference records, and six MSC Champions. Other notable honors include fourteen second team All-Conference finishes, twenty-two NAIA All-American honors, top five national finish from Women in 2020, and four Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Before coming to Life, Sonsteng served as assistant coach at Campbellsville University where he coached nine NAIA national qualifiers and finished top half of the MSC both seasons. In his time at CU he helped lead five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes and seventeen Academic All-MSC performers, as well as being named the 2016 Team Champions of Character Award recipients.

As a swimmer, Sonsteng was very successful. Swimming with Concordia University, Irvine 2012-14 he was a team captain, appearing in numerous Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference finals.

Sonsteng earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies from Concordia University, Irvine and his Master’s of Business Administration from Campbellsville University.
