On July 5, USA Rugby announced the hiring of Life U Athletic Director Dan Payne as its new Chief Executive Officer. Payne had been on a short list of candidates to take over the helm, and his background, experience and track record made him the ideal candidate. He will begin the transition to his new post in August.

"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Dan Payne as the new CEO of USA Rugby," said USA Rugby Chairman of the Board Bob Latham. "Dan brings an attractive range of experience and skills to the position. He has experience in many levels of the game as a national team player and coach, as a university head coach and now athletic director, and as a club player and administrator."

In Payne's seven years at Life U, he took over the rugby program that consisted of a men's club, and grew the program to include both men's and women's undergraduate teams that have since won five national championships. After being promoted to Athletic Director, he led an expansion from 7 to 16 intercollegiate teams and an increase in the student-athlete enrollment to more than 300.

"I'm excited for this new challenge," said Payne. "It is with mixed emotions that I accept this position, as we have enjoyed tremendous success in a short amount of time at Life U. I have every confidence it will be a smooth transition within the Athletic Department because we have build an incredible team of talented coaches and administrators that have been a major part of that success."

"We hate to lose Dan, but we support and congratulate him on his appointment as CEO of USA Rugby," said Life U Provost Dr. Rob Scott.  "His talents and track record of success everywhere he has been is remarkable, and is recognized outside the confines of Life University. We wish to thank Dan for his seven years of service, and wish him success in his new role."

Life U will begin the process of naming a new Athletic Director in the coming weeks.
