Life U Defeats Queens University of Charlotte 44-0
Women's Rugby / 10.22.17
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Life University women's rugby's junior varsity side defeated Queens University of Charlotte 44-0.
Â
"This was a good showing for our JV side, and we saw 17 freshmen and sophomores take the field," Head Coach
Rosalind Chou said. "We put a couple of players in new positions to see how they would do, sophomore
Taylor Makowski got 20 minutes at number 8 just to test the waters and build depth in that position. Today we saw the squad apply some of the improvements we've been focusing on in training. In the previous matches this season, we've seen this side give up quite a number of points so the primary theme in trainings has been organized defense and launch. They were able to do a better job across the board and the cover defense was anchored by sophomore fullback
Lauren Dodd.
Â
"They are still improving on the finer points of the attack structure, and there were many bright spots.
Taryn Holley is rapidly entering the fold and had a great day on the wing today. Freshman
Ciara Lambert is really showing that she not only has confidence in the physical contest, but also an incredibly high rugby IQ. She's a legacy with both her father (Gary Lambert) and brother (Garrett Lambert) having played in the Life U jersey." Â
Â
In total, six different Running Eagles scored tries in the win.
Ciara Lambert led the squad with three tries.
Â
Lauren Dodd got things rolling for Life U with a try at 15'.
Taylor Makowski followed shortly after with a try of her own at 18' to push the lead to 10-0.
Ana Fanning pushed the lead to 15-0 at 21' with a try. Lambert closed out the opening half as she dotted the ball down in the try zone to give the Life U a 20-0 lead at 26'.
Â
Lambert found the try zone again just two minutes into the second half to move the score to 25-0.
Natalie Barrera found pay dirt at 48'.
Roxanna Patterson scored a try of her own at 55' to push the lead to 39-0. Lambert score her final try at 68' to give the Running Eagles a 44-0 victory.
Â
Life U is back in action on Oct. 28 as they travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to compete in the Owl-O-Ween Tournament, hosted by Kennesaw State.
