MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University went 2-0 on the day with the varsity side taking a 52-7 victory over Notre Dame College and the junior varsity side taking down the Augusta Furies 41-24.

"The team has been working incredibly hard these past three weeks, and it was great to go out and get two very competitive games under our belt today," head coach Rosalind Chou said. "We're really finding a lot of good combinations, improving skills, and building depth."

In total 13 Running Eagles scored tries in the two wins. In the varsity match against NDC, N'Keiah Butler and Kaitlyn Broughton paced the squad with two tries apiece. While Whitney Wilson scored five conversions.

In the junior varsity match against the Furies, Jesah Haun led the squad with two tries, while Ana Fanning contributed three conversions in the victory.

In the first match of the day, Life U got things rolling early against Notre Dame, as Butler scored the day's first try just four minutes into the match. They would keep the pressure on by taking a 12-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. The Running Eagles would score twice more in the opening half to take a 26-0 lead into the intermission.

The second period started just as fast as the first half with Darian Lovelace scoring just nine minutes in. Notre Dame would score their only try and conversion of the match in the 62nd minute to cut the lead to 40-7. The Running Eagles scored two more tries and conversion to take the 52-7 victory.

In the junior varsity match against the Augusta Furies, Bonnie Faith Mosby got things started in the 13th minute with a try to take a 5-0 lead. The Furies would answer back and score two unanswered tries to take a 14-5 lead into the half.

The second half was a different story as Haun scored two tries in the first six minutes to take the lead back 17-14. The Furies would tie it back up at 17-17 seven minutes later. From there, however, Life U rolled up three tries and two conversions unanswered to take a 36-17 lead. Augusta would score once more to pull within 36-24, but Octavia Lenoir would find pay dirt as time expired to give Life U the 41-24 victory.

"We'll taper back and get the team rested for our long travel out to the Pacific Northwest, and look to keep improving every week," Chou said.

The junior varsity Running Eagles will be back in action tomorrow as they face off against the Atlanta Harlequins Division 2 side. The varsity side will travel to Ellensburg, Wash. on Sept. 30 to take on Central Washington.
