Men's Rugby /
MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University dominated LSU in a season opening 103-0 shutout on Saturday.

In total, 11 different Running Eagles scored tries in the rout. Harley Wheeler and Daemon Torres paced the squad with a hat trick apiece, while Sean Coughlan and Maciou Koroi finished with doubles on the day.

Life U got things started early, as Wheeler went over in the corner of the try zone for the match's first points just five minutes in. Three minutes later he found the try zone again as he broke off a great run a few phases after the ensuing kickoff from his previous try. The Running Eagles took a 17-0 lead with 30 minutes left in the half on a try from Alex Maughan and conversion from Duncan Van Schalkwyk. Life U led 45-0 with seven minutes left in half thanks to tries from Matt Harmon, Coughlan, Koroi and Keagan Sparks. With time expiring in the half, van Schalkwyk split the uprights on a penalty kick to take a 48-0 lead into the break.

After the intermission, the Running Eagles continued to pile on the pressure and take advantage of the Bayou Bengals' mistakes. Palema Roberts scored the first try of the second half just over a minute in. Torres pushed the score to 60-0 with his second try at 45', with Koroi getting his second try two minutes later. Brian Muntanga got on the score sheet and pushed the lead to 74-0 at 53'. Torres and Wheeler both earned their hat tricks with the next two tries at 63' and 69' respectively. Life U pushed the score out to 103-0 in the final 20 minutes with tries from van Schalkwyk, Couglan and Justin Johnson to take the season opening victory at home.
