Women's Rugby / 02.25.18
MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University suffered its first loss of the season to the Capital All-Stars in a 35-31 decision on Saturday.
"This game was exactly what we needed at this point in the season, and we are so grateful to the Capital Selects for making the trip down," Head Coach
Rosalind Chou said. "We faced some extremely skilled clubside players, who challenged us in the set piece and with their tactical kicking. We have to work on game management decisions under fatigue, and continue to improve as we look ahead to our double-header weekend in Nashville. A number of our student-athletes stepped up to the challenge and our bench was pivotal in keeping us in this back-and-forth game.
Amelie Poulin created 3 turnovers in 20 minutes.
Sydnee Cervinski continues to impress as a first year in such an important role as flyhalf.
Maria Marin also gave a great effort at inside center."
Three Running Eagles found their way on to the score sheet with tries on the night. Both
Megan Rom and Kaitlynn Broughton finished the day with a double.
Rom got things started just five minutes in with her first try. After a heavy defensive battle, the All-Stars tied things up at 26' and took the lead 8-5 with a kick at 33'. Broughton retook the lead 12-8 with a try in the final moments of the half.
Maria Marin pushed the lead out to 19-8 just 30 seconds into the second half. Once again, though, the All-Stars went on a run of their own with back-to-back tries at 46' and 51' to take a 20-19 lead. Rom answered with a try to retake the lead 24-20. Capital All-Stars retook the lead 25-24 at 58'. Broughton regain the lead 31-25 at 63'. However, the All-Stars would have the last say as they scored a try, conversion, and a kick for points in the final 10 minutes to take a 35-31 victory.
The Running Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, March 10 as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to face off against Davenport University in an exhibition match.
