Running Eagles Open Spring Season With Win Over Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – Life University's women's rugby junior varsity squad got the spring season underway with a 54-10 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday.
 
"It was a great start to the season and the squad really played together as a team for the full 80 minutes," Head Coach Rosalind Chou said. "They've been working hard these past four weeks, and it was great to see them execute well under pressure. KSU is a great squad and are really physical in the breakdown and tackle contest. They have some really strong runners and showed us where we need to improve and what we should focus on for our next match against Georgia Tech next week."
 
In total, seven Running Eagles scored tries in the win. Jesah Haun paced the squad with a hat trick, while Tatum Johnson scored a double on the day.
 
Chyenne Samuels got things started for Life U, putting the Running Eagles on the board with the game's first try at 5-0. Sydnee Cervinski added to the score at 7' with a try of her own. Haun scored her first try of the day at 11' to increase the lead to 15-0. Johnson followed with her first try just four minutes later, pushing the lead to 20-0. The Owls finally got on the board at 28' with a try to pull within 20-5. Haun got tries two and three back-to-back at 31' and 34'. Johnson put the Running Eagles up 35-5 with her second try in the final minutes of the half.
 
After the break, KSU showed signs of life scoring a try just two minutes into the second half. However, Malery Billingy scored a try four minutes later with Emilie Cunnington tacking on the conversion to go up 42-10. Life U would add two more tries in the match, with Catalina Tatafu getting on the scoresheet at 59' and Lambert following at 67'. Life U would go on to take the 54-10 final.
 
The Running Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10 as they welcome Georgia Tech to Lupo Family Field.
