Women's Rugby Finish Third at USA Rugby D1 College 7s Championships

Glendale, Colo. ---- The Life University Women's Rugby team finished third at the 2018 USA Rugby D1 Collegiate 7s Championships with a 22-21 last-second victory over Army.

Ciara Lambert scored early off a dummy inside the ten to give Life an early 5-0 lead. Army responded with a try of its own, however Lambert picked up her second try of the match with a sprint 60 meters down the sideline to put Life ahead 12-7.

Army led 14-12 at the half, however Sydnee Cervinski scored her first try of the match after an excellent pass from Kaitlyn Broughton to give Life a 17-14 lead. Army responded with another try, but in the final moments of the match Madison Ohmann scored a try for the Running Eagles to secure a third place finish for Life at the championships.

Earlier in the day, Life fell to Lindenwood University 17-14 in the final moments of the semifinals.

Broughton put the Running Eagles ahead 7-0 early in the first half, as Lindenwood tallied two tries to lead 10-7 before the half.

Alex Sedrick finished a long play down the field with a successful conversion to give Life a 14-10 lead. Seconds before the end of the match, Lindenwood scored on a long run to take the semifinal matchup 17-14.

"The women played until the final whistle of both the semifinal and third place match. This group has guts and are a wonderful group of young women," head coach Rosalind Chou stated. "This tournament was great preparation for our season finale at the Collegiate Rugby Championship. We look forward to continuing to improve when we compete in Philadelphia!"
