Men's Rugby Fall to Lindenwood in Penn Mutual CRC Semifinals
Men's Rugby /
Philadelphia ---- The Life University Men's Rugby Team defeated Penn State early in the day of the 2018 Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships, but fell to Lindenwood in the semifinals to end the year for the Running Eagles.

The men fought hard to earn an early win over Penn State 12-5 to advance to the semifinals. However, the men were unable to advance further falling 17-7 to Lindenwood.

"Although we didn't get the result, it was a good weekend and it's just been a great year for our group. I'm gutted for the men because I know they want it, they always do. But we'll lick our wounds, learn and move forward," head coach Colton Cariaga stated. "In the semi-final game in particular, the defensive pressure we applied was as good as it's been. But when we turned them and got an attacking opportunity we just weren't as sharp. But for the tournament as a whole, we're pretty happy with the rugby they played in all aspects. The most exciting thing about this group is how they understand, appreciate and own their individual roles on the field and off. Mitchell, along with fellow captain Alex Maughan (who did not make the trip), have done a fantastic job leading them. Also, some others like Maciu, Duncan, and Harley have provided the emotional spark whether that's been with their words or a big play on the field. Even our reserves this weekend, Brian and Nikey, pitched in and added value even though they didn't get the opportunity to compete. It's a program wide effort."

The men finish the season 21-1 and captured the USA Rugby D1A 15s National Championship a couple weeks ago.
