Men's Club Rugby Starts Season with Road Win over Mystic River

MALDEN, Mass. ---- The Life University men's club rugby team earned a hard-fought 28-22 win over the Mystic River Rugby Club Saturday afternoon to start the season.
Sam Cowley had four successful conversions during the match, which proved to be important as the Running Eagles scored four tries.
Schuyler Whelan scored early for Life U with a good conversion from Cowley for an early 7-0 lead.
Minutes later, George Phelan picked up the ball after a kick to score another try with the conversion from Cowley. The Running Eagles led 14-0 early in the match. Just before the end of the first half,
Sean Coughlan found open space to score the third try of the half for Life U. Another successful conversion gave Life U a 21-0 lead at the half.
Mystic River came out strong in the second half, scoring 22 unanswered points to take a 22-21 lead. With the clock winding down,
Austin White was able to fight his way down the field and score for the Running Eagles. Another successful conversion from Cowley gave Life U the 28-22 lead near the end of the match. The Running Eagles were able to secure the lead and the win in the final moments of the match to improve to 1-0 on the year.Â
The men's club rugby team will return to action on Saturday, September 15, when they travel to Travers Island, N.Y. to face the New York Rugby Club at 1 PM.Â
