No. 4 Women's Wrestling Falls to No. 7 Cumberlands on Senior Night

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The No. 4 nationally ranked Life University women's wrestling team fell to No. 7 the University of the Cumberlands 25-20 in a Mid-South Conference match Thursday night. Before the beginning of the match, seniors

Aysia Cortez were recognized for their contributions to the program in their time as a Running Eagle.
Life University began the match with a forfeit from the Patriots as Garriga gave the Running Eagles a 5-0 lead. At 109, Jessica Rodriguez from Cumberlands won by a fall fifteen seconds into the second period to tie the dual at 5.
Autumn Gordon for the Patriots won at 116 by a 9-6 decision to give the Cumberlands an 8-6 lead.
Selina Brown (123) and
Sierra Powell (130) each earned technical falls (10-0 and 12-2) to give the Running Eagles a 14-9 lead halfway through the dual.
Bridgette Duty earned a 12-2 technical fall for Cumberlands at 136, however Life U still led 15-13. Wight earned a huge 7-4 decision at 143 to extend the Running Eagle lead to 18-14.
Cumberlands won the final three matches as Anna Naylor earned a fall 1:40 into the 155 match with Payton Rigert (170, 8-5) and Jesse Kirby (191, 12-3) each earning decisions for the final score of 25-20 in favor of the Cumberlands.
The women's wrestling team will return to action on Thursday, January 17, as they host Emmanuel College in a dual at 6 PM.
