Men's Swimming Completes Weekend with Victory over Campbellsville

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's swimming team competed in a pair of contests over the weekend that featured two teams on Friday, Campbellsville and Asbury, before traveling to Lindsey Wilson for the dual Saturday.
The men were able to avenge their loss a week ago to Campbellsville 92-90, but fell to both Asbury and Lindsey Wilson.Â
In the meet against Campbellsville and Asbury, the Running Eagles had two first place finishes. The 400 meter Medley Relay team of
Lucas Payan,
Victor Lima,
Trent Dungey and
Anatolii Kuzemko captured first with a time of 4:14.38 which is a NAIA "A" cut. Dungey captured the only individual first finish place during the dual in the 200 meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:18.55.
Other notable finishes included Kuzemko picking up third in the 200 meter Freestyle (2:07.95) and the 100 meter Butterfly (1:04.27), Dungey finishing second in the 50 meter Freestyle (26.11) and Lima placing third in the 100 meter Freestyle (58.56) and the 100 meter Breaststroke (1:16.99). Dungey added a second place finish in the 100 meter Backstroke (1:06.50) as Payan finished just behind him in third (1:06.69).
After a quick turnaround, the Running Eagles traveled to Lindsey Wilson for a dual on Saturday. Against the Blue Raiders, Dungery earned the lone first place finish in the 200 yard Butterfly with a time of 1:57 which also was a NAIA "A" cut.Â
Other notable finishes during the second dual included
Tyler Spencer and
Gustavo Rondon finishing second and third in the 1000 yard Freestyle. Payan added a third place finish in the 100 yard Backstroke (57.85) as Kuzemko finished second in the 100 yard Freestyle (50.69) and 100 yard Butterfly (57.13).
"There were some great swims on the men's side," head coach
Patrick Sonsteng stated. "Practicing race strategy and discipline have been very important. I can't wait to continue this as we prepare for conference in February."Â
The men's swimming team will return to action on Friday, November 22, as they travel to Sewanee, Tennessee to compete in the Igloo Invitational for two days. The invitational will be hosted by Sewanee: The University of the South.Â
