No. 10 Men's Wrestling Sweep Tri-Dual at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The No. 10 nationally ranked Life University men's wrestling team earned a pair of victories Tuesday night in a tri-dual with Huntingdon College and (RV) Thomas More. The Running Eagles defeated Mid-South Conference foe Thomas More 32-15 before defeating Huntingdon 40-0 for the third shutout this season. 

Life U began the tri-dual with a matchup against MSC opponent Thomas More. The Saints took an early 6-0 lead with a forfeit at 125, but Tramon Jenkins answered immediately at 133 with a win via pin fall at 3:53 to tie the match. Julian Hernandez earned the 7-4 decision at 141 as Denver Stonecheck picked up the pin (2:46) at 149 to put Life U ahead 15-6. Carter Page earned an 18-8 major decision at 157 with Mason McDaniel acquiring the 15-2 major decision at 165. Phillip McBride continued the win-strak at 174 with an 11-5 decision. Thomas More earned the pin at 184 and a 4-1 decision at 197 before Andre Bissainthe finished the dual with a pin (3:42) at 285. Life U earned the 32-15 victory to improve to 1-0 in MSC play.

In the dual against Huntingdon, neither team had a wrestler at 125, so the dual began at 133. Jenkins picked up the 15-0 technical fall (4:04) as Hernandez followed up with an 18-3 technical fall (3:35) of his own at 141. Marcelo Sierra earned the 12-2 major decision at 149 with Page tallying the 16-10 decision at 157. McDaniel won via pin fall 19 seconds into the match at 165 as McBride earned bonus points with the 16-7 major decision at 174. Timothy Johnson won with a pin 55 seconds into the match at 184 as Baker Hadwan took the 7-3 decision at 197. Bissainthe ended the dual with a 15-4 major decision for the 40-0 Running Eagle victory.

The men's wrestling team will return to action Friday, January 10, as they travel to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the NWCA National Duals for two days.
