Men's Rugby Tops Navy to Advance to D1A Rugby Eastern Final

ANNAPOLIS, MD ---- The No. 1 seeded Life University men's rugby team scored 33 points in the second half after trailing 11-7 to defeat No. 5 seeded Navy 40-25 Saturday afternoon. The Running Eagles now advance to the D1A Rugby Eastern Final against No. 6 seeded Lindenwood that will take place Saturday, April 27 at 5:30 PM on Lupo Family Field here at Life University.

At the beginning of the match, Life U struck first with a try from Justin Johnson, and a successful conversion from Duncan Van Schalkwyk for an early 7-0 lead. Navy responded with a pair of successful penalty kicks to bring the match to within one, and a try before the half put the Midshipmen ahead 11-7 at the break.

The Running Eagles took the momentum back with 19 points in the first 16 minutes of the second half. Johnson scored his second as Daemon Torres also reached the end line. Keagan Sparks dotted down the last try in the burst to put Life U ahead 26-11.

Another score and a penalty try resulted in the final 40-point spread for Life U as Navy finished with a pair of scores for the 40-25 final score.

The Running Eagles will now host Lindenwood on Lupo Family Field this Saturday at 5:30 PM for a spot in the National Championship. Tickets for the Semifinal match can be ordered online here: D1A Rugby Semifinal Tickets (Life vs Lindenwood)
