Men's Club Rugby Downs Mystic River in Home Opener

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University men's club rugby team defeated Mystic River 39-15 Saturday afternoon in the 2019 home opener.
The Running Eagles never trailed in the match to bring their record to 1-1.
Sam Cowley got things started early in the match with a penalty. Poole scored the next try to put the Running Eagles ahead 10-0 early in the match. Mystic River responded with a try of its own, however missed the conversion. Cowley scored a try just before the half to give Life U a 15-5 lead at the break.
The Van Schalkwyk brothers combined to score for the next Life U try as the offload from Zander connected with Duncan for the score to lead 22-5.
Austin White found the edge with just over 20 minutes on the clock to put the Running Eagles ahead with a commanding 27-5 lead. Life U added another try with ten minutes on the clock to lead 32-5.Â
Mystic River added a pair of tries with no conversions to cut the lead to 32-15.
Gio Falco found a seam to end the match with the conversion from Cowley to earn the 39-15 Life U victory.
The men's club rugby team will return to action on Saturday, September 21, when they travel to face Old Blue at 7 PM.
