No. 3 Men's Wrestling Earns Pair of MSC Victories in Road Trip

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. ---- The No. 3 nationally ranked Life University men's wrestling team earned a pair of Mid-South Conference wins Saturday afternoon in a road trip to Keiser University.
The Running Eagles earned the 16-15 win over No. 10 Southeastern University to start the day.
Chase Ayers started the dual with a 6-2 decision at 125 as
Sean Deshazer earned the 6-3 decision at 133 to put Life U ahead 6-0. Southeastern picked up a 6-3 decision at 141 as
Marcelo Sierra bounced back with a 9-3 decision at 149. Southeastern won at 157 and 165 to tie the dual at nine.
Phillip McBride took a 6-4 decision win at 174 before southeastern won in top-bottom on a reversal at 184. Diallo Matsimella earned a 4-2 decision at 197 to give Life U a 15-12 lead. Southeastern came away with a decision at 285 to send the dual to criteria where the Running Eagles won via the third criteria on total points scored, defeating the Fire 40-37 for the extra point.
Life U then faced host Keiser University in the final dual of the day. The Seahawks won at 125 as Deshazer earned the six-point forfeit at 133.
Marcus Abreu earned a 15-2 major decision at 141 as
Denver Stonecheck picked up the pin at 149 in 1:34. Keiser picked up a major decision at 157 with
Sid Ohl earning the 21-3 technical fall at 165. Keiser bounced back with an 11-4 decision at 174 as the Running Eagles swept the final three weight classes.
Timothy Johnson tallied the 4-3 decision at 184 as
Baker Hadwan followed the performance with a 10-4 decision.
Bret Winters ended the dual with a pin in the second period at 4:01 to give the Running Eagles the 33-11 win over the Seahawks.
"We got tested today with a very tough Southeastern team," head coach
Omi Acosta stated. "We got exposed in areas we need to improve on. Moving forward, we will work on these areas to get ready for the Mid-South Conference tournament."
The men's wrestling team will return to action on Thursday, January 23, when they host Keiser University and Brewton-Parker College in a dual that will begin at 7 PM.
