LEBANON, TENN. — The Men's basketball team traveled to Tennessee on Saturday to take on the Cumberland University Phoenix. They would lose 71-74.
The Men would drop to 10-11, while Cumberland would drop to 12-9. The men would give a collective effort defensively and offensively. A dunk from Cam Horton and a three pointer from Tory Ferguson would keep the score margin in close quarters. However, the Phoenix would maintain a lead throughout the first half.
Life U would be outscored in the first half, but shot 50 percent from the arc, 51.9 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. Cumberland would have identical stats, but would shoot 88.9 from the charity stripe. This would give them a one point lead at the end of the half.
In the second half, the Men would fight for a lead in the second half. After a good free-throw from Mike White, a three pointer from Ferguson and dunk from Joyner. The Running Eagles would have a lead, and maintain it before Cumberland would look to switch the momentum.
There would be five lead changes throughout the game, Antwan Maxwell and Jeremy Joyner would provide their power in the paint. But Cumberland would close out the game in their favor, with four made free-throws.
Efforts from Jeremy Joyner and Antwan Maxwell would have them finish with 17 and 16 points respectively. Connor Gamble would shoot 40 percent from the field and 37 percent from around the arc, with 12 points total.
