Men's Wrestling Shuts Out Truett McConnell in 2020 Opener

CLEVELAND, Ga. ---- The Life University men's wrestling team started the 2020 season in dominant fashion with a 42-0 win over Truett McConnell Wednesday night.

Rand McCray Jr. started the match with a 7-4 decision at 125 pounds. Marcus Abreu picked up the first fall of the match at 133 lbs. 2:14 seconds into the first period. The Running Eagles took a 15-0 lead with a forfeit at 141 lbs. 

Julian Hernandez earned a 12-4 major decision at 149 lbs. as Case Merrit followed the performance with an 18-8 major decision at 157 lbs. The Running Eagles led 26-0 after Jack Bass earned the 10-5 decision at 165 lbs.

The final weight classes fell in favor of Life U as well as Asher Eichert (174 lbs.) and Mike Gibson (184 lbs.) earned a pair of decisions, 12-9 and 11-5. Baker Hadwan added bonus points with a 13-4 major decision at 197 lbs. as Bret Winters ended the dual with a first period pin in 1:48.

The men's wrestling team will return to action this weekend Saturday, November 7, as they travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to compete in the Patriot Open hosted by the University of the Cumberlands.
