No. 2 Men's Wrestling Sweeps Road Trip in Dominant Fashion

LAURINBURG, N.C. ---- The No. 2 nationally ranked Life University men's wrestling program improved to 4-0 on the year with a pair of shutout victories Saturday afternoon. The Running Eagles defeated Keiser University 60-0 and St. Andrews 55-0.

The men's wrestling team has yet to drop an individual match in a dual as the team totaled 12 wins via pin fall out of the 20 on the day. Life U defeated Keiser in the opener with a handful of forfeits. Brandon Orum, Quin McGlamery, Gavin Christ, Yarhoski Aldiva and Mason McDaniel each picked up the win via forfeit at their weight class. The remaining five Running Eagles all won via pin fall to secure the perfect match. Denver Stonecheck, Asher Eichert, Ashton Habeil, Baker Hadwan and Bret Winters each scored the fall for the 60-0 scoreline in match one. This also marked the first Mid-South Conference victory for Life U.

In the second match of the day against host St. Andrews, Life U started off with a forfeit win at 125. McGlamery earned the fall in 2:31 to put Life U ahead 12-0. Christ (12-3) and Aldiva (11-2) each secured major decisions to give Life U a 20-0 lead. The remaining six boughts were all won via pin fall. Stonecheck earned the pin in 1:07 as McDaniel secured his in 2:08. The next pair of Eichert (4:08) and Habiel (4:41) picked up second period pins. Hadwan Secured his in 2:35 as Winters ended the match in the first minute with a pin for the final score of 55-0.

Head coach Omi Acosta shared his thoughts afterward stating, "Like always, with all this going on in the world, we are thankful for the opportunity to compete. The guys showed up and fought, and that's what it's all about. I would like to thank coach Nick Soto from St. Andrews for stepping up and giving us the chance to compete with his team. Now, we will take a small break and then prepare for the rest of the season."

The men's wrestling team will return to action on Saturday, January 9, when they travel to Central Baptist College for the Central Baptist College Invite.
