Life U Men's Basketball Takes Loss to Georgetown in Final Season Matchup

The Men will travel to Cumberland University on Tuesday 3/3 for the Mid-South Play-In.

GEORGETOWN, KY —  The Running Eagles Men's Basketball team would finish out their season taking on No. 2 Georgetown College on Saturday. Earlier this week, the Men faced No. 18 Thomas More, losing 59-65.

The Matchup against Georgetown would determine whether the Running Eagles would participate in a play-in game for the Mid-South conference tournament.

Off of the jump ball, the Tigers take an earky 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the first half. Connor Gamble would answer back with a three, making it a two-point game. But, Georgetown would keep their foot on the gas, while Life U maintained pace. The Running Eagles would hold the Tigers to a single-digit lead for majority of the first.

By the mid-point of the first half, Georgetown would have a 34-27 lead, then closed out the half with a score of 43-30. The Running Eagles shot 38.7 percent from the field and committed only five turnovers to Georgetown's seven.

Entering the second half, the Men would fight for a lead. Guard, Cam Horton drained a three in the first minute of the second half, but the Tigers would keep the lead in double-digits. The Running Eagles fought to prevent Georgetown from reaching a 20-point lead. The Tigers would struggle to get up shots, which gave the men the chance to close the score gap to 11 points.

The Running Eagles would be down by 18 at the midway marker of the second half. The Tigers would maintain a lead before hitting the 20-point mark. Life U would fight back to chip away at the score, with shots from Horton and Jordan Hernandez. The score margin would be at just 15 points with three minutes left in the game.

As time would trickle down, the score would be at a standstill, 87-67. The Running Eagles would lose by 20. They would shoot 37.1 percent from the field, while Georgetown would shoot 50.8 percent. Life U would outshoot Georgetown at the free-throw line, going 12 for 15, while the Tigers would go 12 for 20.

Efforts stem from Antwan Maxwell, who finished with 19 points and five rebounds. Horton would finish with 17 points and seven rebounds, along with Hernandez and Gamble, finishing with 10 a piece.
