Men's Wrestling Notches 37-6 Victory over Fifth-Ranked Southeastern
Men's Wrestling /
MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The second nationally ranked Life University men's wrestling team recorded yet another dual match victory, handling fifth-ranked, conference foe Southeastern today in the Eagles' Nest 37-6.

From the early stage's of the match, Life U quickly set the tone with two upset victories. Brandon Orum got things started at 125 lbs., picking up an upset victory over the No. 5 in his weight class be decision. Quin McGlammery pinned his ranked opponent in the second period (4:15) to put the Running Eagles on top 9-0.

Southeastern made it on to the scoreboard in the 141 pound match, but a dominant performance by Denver Stonecheck at 149 lbs. with a 20-2 tech fall killed any momentum that the Fire might have been trying to create. The Fire forfeited the next match to Jack Bass to out Life U ahead 20-3.

Sid Ohl and Asher Eichert recorded back-to-back major decisions for the Running Eagles, expressing an overwhelming physical advantage over their opponents. Myles Starke followed that up by coming just short of a major decision over the 14th-ranked 184 pounder with an 11-4 decision as the team moved to a 31-3 advantage.

At 197 lbs. Zane Lanham recorded the second pin of the dual, defeating his opponent in 6:26. In the final match of the dual, Diallo Matsimela wrestled up to heavy weight, giving the fifth-ranked 285 pounder a tough time in a 6-3 lost decision.

Head coach Omi Acosta shared his thoughts about how his team looks after the victory, "I think the guys looked good--number one--we looked hungry. The goal was to set the pace right away; win, lose, or draw we are going to go out there and compete. I'm really proud of the guys that stepped up like; Brandom Orum beating a top-ranked guy, Quin McGlammery beating a top ranked guy, Myles beating a top ranked guy... It just goes up and down the lineup. I'm even proud of Diallo [Matsimela]. Even though he lost, he stepped up to heavyweight and wrestled his match, not giving up anything bonus." Finished Acosta, "I'm really proud of my guys, but the real question is how good we can be. The goal is not to beat Southeastern. The goal is to be the best team that we can possibly be, because that is what will get us to our final goal of the season-- a win for Lucha."

The men's wrestling team will return to action next Sunday, January 24th with a home dual against Liberty Universirty at noon.
