PIKEVILLE, Ky. ---- Mathilde Sletner scored twice as the Life U women's soccer team put themselves on the right side of the scoreboard in a road Mid-South Conference game this afternoon, handedly defeating the University of Pikeville 5-0.
NOTES
• Tuesday afternoon's dominant win sees Life U improve to 5-7-2 (1-7-1), while Pikeville still has not found a win at 0-5 (0-5).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sletner led the team on the attack, recording a career high and game-leading two goals off of three total shots, all of which were on goal.
•
Sarah Slingluff attempted a game high five shots with all of them being on frame, connecting on one goal while assisting another.
• The other two Life U goals came off the feet of
Alexandra Collighan and
Megan Herbstritt. Collighan's coming off her only shot of the game, while Herbstritt shot the ball three times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U dominated the offensive possessions of the game, putting and keeping pressure on the Pikeville back line early in the game. The Running Eagles made it through for two quick goals in the opening eight minutes of play, the first coming from Collighan while Slingluff chipped in the second. The final goal of the first half also came relatively early in the game, Sletner recording her first goal in the 19th minute off a Slingluff assist. Life U stayed on the attack the rest of the period, but neither team found the back of the net over the remaining 26 minutes, the Running Eagles taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
• The team got off six shots over the first 15 minutes of the second half, but it was not till
Megan Herbstritt scored off a
Leah McDaid assist with 27 minutes left in play that the team broke through for another score. Right on the heels of Herbstritt's score, Sletner broke away from defenders, collecting a nice pass from
Niamh Halloren for the final goal of the game, maintaining the lead for the 5-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U enjoyed a large lead in shots, kicking 23 with 14 on goal to only four shots with two on goal by Pikeville.
• With the large shot differential, the Bears led saves 9-2.
• The Running Eagles earned quite a few corner kicks, taking seven to none by Pikeville.
• Neither team committed many fouls, Life U leading 5-1 in fouls and 2-1 in cards.
