ST. CHARLES, Mo. ---- The Life University men's rugby team answered the call Saturday night with a redeeming 32-26 win over Lindenwood on the road.
Life U scored first in the 12th minute with a try from
Wium Becker to take an early 5-0 lead. A pair of penalties in the 16th and 24th minute gave Lindenwood the one point advantage, 6-5, before Bradley Crane scored a penalty in the 27th minute.
Chulu Mngxaso distanced the Running Eagles with a try just before the half as Crane added the conversion. At the half, Life U led 15-6.
In an action packed second half, Crane added his second penalty of the match two minutes in. Lindenwood responded with a pair of tries and a conversion to tie the match at 18 in the 55th minute. Life U found an answer 13 minutes later as Crane scored his first try and added another successful conversion. With eight minutes on the clock,
Chase Schor-Haskin provided the game-winning try as Crane tallied his fourth conversion to put the Running Eagles ahead 32-18. Lindenwood added a try in the 75th minute and a penalty in the 79th minute, however the Life U defense held strong in the final minutes to give the Running Eagles the 32-26 victory.
"Credit to the men for going back to the grindstone after our last encounter with Lindenwood, and ultimately coming out much improved today," head coach
Colton Cariaga stated. "The effort and eagerness to stay locked in and focused throughout, from senrios and underclassmen alike, was great for the maturation of this team. We showed glimpses of how good we can be and we will want more of that moving forward."
The men's rugby team will return to action on Saturday, March 27, when they host Queens University of Charlotte on Lupo Family Field at 1 PM. Fans can catch the action provided by FloRugby here:
