MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University men's club rugby team recorded scores early and often as they raced out to an early lead and never looked back to defeat the ATL Rugby Selects 49-5 to end the American Rugby Premiership regular season undefeated tonight at Lupo Family Field.
The Running Eagles set the pace of the game early, opening the game with a pair of tries before 10 minutes had even passed to take an early 14-0 lead. In the 13th minute
Sean Coughlan leaped forward to down a try between the goal posts, as the lead extended to 21-0 after the
Jacques Odendaal conversion. Old man
Luke Schlotman bullied his way in for back-to-back tries from close to the try area to see the lead swell even more to 35-0 before the teams broke for the half.Â
Again, it did not take Life U long to find the try area to start the second half, Dom Oliveira taking a pass from Chris Rossouw and dotting down a try to see the score 42-0 at the 42:12 mark. With the Running Eagles going deeper into their rotation,
Brandon Rey got in on the scoring, Odendaal connecting on his seventh straight conversion to push the lead to 49-0. Atlanta finally got a score of their own later in the competion, missing on the conversion to see what ended up being the final score 49-5.
The men's rugby team will next play in the ARP Championship against a to be determined opponent on October 29th.
