Men's Rugby /
MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University men's rugby team played opened their season at home with a 31-22 victory against the American Raptors, surging forward to secure the lead in the second half at Lupo Family Field.

Captain Jared Miller recorded the first score of the game, pushing in at the 15:54 mark of the game to see the team take a quick 7-0 lead. The Raptors found room to work with on the attack as well, responding just seven minutes later with a try of their own to knot the game up at 7-7. After a penalty try saw the Running Eagles retake the lead, Karch Hoffman hit Donovan Law with a well timed pass near the boundary, Law racing past the Raptor defensive effort to see the lead extend to 19-7 at 32:40. With little time to go in the first half, the Raptors found another score to see them retake some of the momentum heading into the break, down 19-12.

The Raptors came out of the half on fire, putting the Running Eagles on their back foot as back-to-back tries saw them take the lead 22-19 15 minutes into the second. Adam Chadwick got the Running Eagles back on track in the 63rd minute, dotting down the ball in the try area to see the team retake the lead 24-22. With little time left in the contest, a Raptor penalty set Life U up with good positioning, Wium Becker catching an excellent pass that he took in for a try to give the score of 31-22. The Raptors made a push to score once more to finish the game, but strong defensive play ended the game.

The Running Eagles return home next weekend, playing host to BYU for a 1 PM contest Saturday, October 22.
