Women's Wrestling Opens Season With Pair of Dual Victories

Life U (2-0) continues its unbeaten duals streak from last season, moving to a 15-0 stretch dating back to January of 2021.
The Running Eagles quickly dispatched Avila in the first dual, taking a quick 9-0 lead after a forfeit in the 101 lbs. match was followed by a lightning quick 10-0 tech fall by Peyton Prussin. In the next bought, Brianna Funakoshi fought back from a late deficit to claim a 8-7 victory by decision. Another tech fall went Life U's way after Anna Kresja made short work of her opponent which was followed by a pair of forfeits to see the lead swell to 26-1.
The back half of the dual saw things continue to go the way that the Running Eagles wished, Riley Dalrymple and Jamilah McBryde securing back-to-back victories by pin. The final two matches of the dual saw a forfeit at 170 lbs. and then Madeline Welch ended things on a high note, earning the team its third pin of the contest to record a 46-1 victory.
Presbyterian provided a greater test for the Running Eagles, a pin and tech fall sandwiching a Prussin tech fall for the first three matches to see the Blue Hose hold an early 9-4 edge. Kresja finished her dominant night with a pin at 123 lbs. to tie the dual at 9-9. Zaynah McBryde and Kailey Rees followed up with a tech fall and fall, respectively, to put Life U in the driver's seat at 18-9.
The 143 lbs. match went in the favor of Presby, but a forfeit and Jesaphine Lee victory by fall secured the team victory as the lead stood at 28-13 with only one more match to be competed in. The 191 lbs. match went in the favor of the Blue Hose off criteria to see the final of 29-16.
The Running Eagles next turn to the Missouri Valley Open to be competed in over November 18th and 19th in Marshall, Mo.
