Men's Basketball Dominates Fisk in 80-43 Win

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team cruised to an 80-43 win over Fisk University Thursday night. The Running Eagles earned a lead through two dominant halves in the win, scoring 43 points in the second half alone.

In the first half, the Running Eagles (9-2, 3-2 SSAC) opened the scoring with free throws from Shomik Shahjahan, 2-0. The Bulldogs (1-7) tied the contest in the next possession before a Running Eagles turnover resulted in another Fisk U. basket, giving the visitors their largest and only lead of the contest, 4-2.

From that point on, the Running Eagles went on a 35-12 run, creating a huge margin by halftime with Joshua Ward and Devin Story tallying a combined 15 points at the break.

Second half action proved to be much of the same for Life U., with an 8-0 run taking the scoreline to 50-22 at the 14:17 mark. Another 12-5 run later in the half continued to extend the lead but the final basket of the night for Life University's Mason Barnes gave the Running Eagles their largest lead of the night, 80-43.

Fisk finished 18-for-71 (25%) from the floor and 2-for-21 (9.5%) from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs shot 5-for-10 (50%) from the free-throw line and totaled 22 points in the paint with 38 rebounds. The Bulldogs recorded nine assists with six steals in the loss.

Life U finished 29-for-67 (43.3%) from the floor and 11-for-30 (36.7%) from behind the arc. The Running Eagles shot 11-for-13 (84.5%) from the free-throw line and added 34 points in the paint. Life U recorded 44 rebounds with 18 assists to go along with ten steals.

Starting guard Joshua Ward led the team with 16 points as the only other double-figure scorer was Devin Story. Transfer forward Mohamed Elgohary flirted with a double-double recording nine points and ten rebounds off the bench.

Up next, the men's program will have a week to prepare for a conference contest against #7 Faulkner University. Tipoff next Thursday (Dec. 15th) is set for 7:30 PM in the Eagles' Nest.
