Men's Track and Field Wins MSC Indoor Championship in First Year Back

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Life University men's track and field team returned to competition this year and did so in style, claiming the Mid-South Conference Indoor T&F Championship Saturday as the team swept all four short track events and the 4x400m relay for five champions to go with seven other All-Conference honors, Coach of the Year for
Dominic Demeritte, and Assistant Coach of the Year for Tosha Sumner.
The Running Eagles won the event with a total of 146 points, edging out second placed Cumberland (Tenn.) which earned 137.5 points. Univ. of the Cumberlands rounded out the top three with a team score of 119.
Life U was dominant in the short track events, winning the 60m, 200m, 400m, and 600m dash.
Sameer Mateen recorded two of the team's five championships, winning the 60m dash with an A-Standard time of 6.76 which is currently the fourth best in the NAIA, and the best 200m dash time in the NAIA this season with a time of 21.09.
Ngoni Chadyiwa came up next, taking first place in the 400m dash with an A-Standard time of 47.96 that is the sixth best time in the NAIA. In the 600m dash,
Jacob Ulrich hit a blazing fast time of 1:17.65 that is the second best in the NAIA to help the Running Eagles sweep the short track events. Life U's final; victory came in the last event of the day, the 4x400m relay, the team of Ulrich, Chadyiwa,
Hesley Charlton, and Mateen finished in an A-Standard time of 3:14.79.
Other All-Conference earners included Chadyiwa following his 400m dash championship with a 200m second place time of 21.74 for another A-Standard mark. Ulrich also recorded a second place time, his coming in the 400m dash with an A-Standard time of 48.01.
Zac Wright-Fisher earned a pair of second place finishes, placing in the 3000 run with a time of 8:43.73 and the 5000m with a time of 15:11.08. Third place finishers included
Patrick Faust with a 1:21.27 in the 600m run, Marvin Jean-Francois taking his spot in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.29, while the only field placer for the Running Eagles was
Michael Panzarino in the pole vault with a height of 4.05m.
Next the Running Eagles will prepare for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field nationals to be held in Brookings, S.D. from March 3rd-5th.
