Women's Track and Field / 02.20.22
LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Life University women's track and field team literally and figuratively ran away from the competition at the Mid-South Conference Indoor T&F Championships this weekend, claiming their second-straight conference track title as the team registered nine individual champions, 11 other All-Conference honors, Coach of the Year for
Dominic Demeritte, Assistant Coach of the Year for
O'Neil Wright, and Athlete of the Year for
Kamryn Kimmel.
The women amassed 222 points during the competition, only one other team earning over 100 team points as the Univ. of the Cumberlands took second place with 155 points. Rounding out the top three, the third placed team, Lindsey Wilson, only registered 77 points.
The Running Eagles top champion earner was Athlete of the Year Kimmel, the graduate student winning the one mile run with an NAIA B-Standard time of 5:10.29, the 1000m run with a time of 3:02.30, and then finally the 800m run in 2:22.12.
Iantha Wright continued the dominance she has shown to this point in the short track, taking the top spot in both the 60m and 200m dash. Her 60m time of 7.35 is not only the best in the NAIA this year, but also the sixth best all time, while her 200m time of 23.81 has an even high distinction, being the second best recorded in NAIA Indoor history. Also on the field taking the podium as champions,
Brianna Florvilus won the 600m dash with an NAIA A-Standard time of 1:35.61, while
Alisha Wright blew away the competition in the 60m hurdles with an A-Standard time of 8.83. Life U also won the 4x400m relay, the team of A. Wright, I. Wright,
Aliyah Sangster, and Florvilus posting a B-Standard time of 3:58.42. The team's only champion in field events was
Levonis Davis, hitting a solid mark of 12.84m to win the shot put.Â
Besides the team's many champions, the Running Eagles registered 11 more student-athletes that took to the podium in either second or third place. Besides her championship, Florvilus also provided the team a second place and A-Standard time of 56.70 in the 400m dash while in the same event Sangster took third with a time of 59.89 to pair with her other third place mark--a B-Standard time of 25.13 in the 200m.
Taylor Ward recorded a pair of runner-ups in the distance, finishing the 3000m in 10:34.66 and the 5000m in 18.24.43.
Briana Madison earned second place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.27. The final track event where a Running Eagle took to the podium was the 3000m race walk,
Claire Gyomory taking third with a 22:47.64. On the field,
Kaylee Lowe posted a second place distance of 11.38m in the triple jump and a third place height of 1.55m in the high jump.
