HOUSTON, Texas ---- The Life University women's rugby team battled through a hard-fought D1 Elite National Championship Saturday, however the Running Eagles were unable to overcome an early deficit to Lindenwood falling 21-0.

The early physicality of the match took its toll, as Life U was forced to make early subs due to injury. Despite the setback, the Running Eagles continued to battle defensively. Lindenwood broke through on a long carry for the early 7-0 lead as Life U struggled to find space offensively. The woes continued as unfortunate turnovers resulted in Lindenwood scoring its second try of the match in the first half. The Lions held a 14-0 lead at the break.

Neither team had much offensive production in the second half as the spacing across the field seemed to shrink every minute. Lindenwood controlled most of the possession, but the Running Eagles defensive unit held strong. Lindenwood scored the final try of the match just before the 80th minute to earn the 21-0 victory over the Running Eagles.

Head coach Rosalind Chou shared her thoughts after the match stating, "I am so proud of the squad's effort today. They played with so much determination and were brave defensively and it was an outstanding performance. Losing our starting flyhallf Coco Mendoza Silva in the first five minutes was a blow, however, everyone stepped up for the team and we played an excellent match. I am so grateful to all of the seniors and all of our supporters and am looking forward to 7s season."

The 7s season for the team begins immediately, as they will host the Life U 7s Tournament on Saturday May 7 in preparation for the NCCR 7s Championships on May 14-15 at Kennesaw State University.
