Women's Rugby Finish Weekend at USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships
Women's Rugby /
KENNESAW, Ga. ---- The Life University women's rugby team competed in the USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships over the weekend at Kennesaw State University, however the Running Eagles came up just short in the semifinals of the event to end the weekend on Sunday.

In pool play, Life U started slow with a 19-14 loss to Army. The Running Eagles battled back from a 19-0 deficit, but were unable to overcome the early advantage. In order to advance in the tournament, Life U had to win its next two games, and put up as many points as possible as point differential would be a significant factor for the seeding in the next round. Life U was able to string together a 40-0 win over Queens and a 29-0 win over Sacred Heart to finish second in the pool and secure a spot in the championships on Sunday.

In the quarterfinals, the Running Eagles held on strong with a good performance against Central Washington as the four seed to win 24-14. That matched the women from Life U against a familiar foe Lindenwood in the semifinals. Despite a slow start, Life U led 7-5 at the break with some promising breaks in offense. Lindenwood responded immediately with a pair of tries off of miscues. The Lions would keep the momentum in the second half and win 27-7 to advance to the title match.

The women's rugby team will take a brief break before returning to action for the Collegiate Rugby Champoinship titled May Madness 7s on May 28 in New Orleans, La. Information on the event can be found here: May Madness 7s Information
