Men's Rugby Exudes Summer Success with Current and Former Athletes and Coaches
Men's Rugby /
MARIETTA, Ga. --- Current and former Life University men's rugby players and coaches have found immense success on both the national and international scene this Summer.

Three current Running Eagles, Orrin Bizer and twin brothers Darius and Donovan Law, were called up to the USA Men's 7s National Team for a series of high performance camps in preparation for the LA Sevens World Series event and the World Rugby 7s World Cup to be played in August and September, respectively. The trio participated in a similar national team camp in February and were standouts for Life University on their way to a USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships title in May.

Darius, a rising junior, was awarded the United States Rugby Foundation's Prusmack Award given to the individual recognized as the best collegiate 7s player in the country. Most memorable of Law's highlights from the 2021-2022 season was the game-winning, long-distance try in the 7s National Championship final.

Current Head Coach Colton Cariaga recently completed a successful tour as an assistant coach with the USA under-20 Junior National Team. The squad was based in The Netherlands capitol city of Amsterdam and competed in a three match series versus Belgium, Czech Republic and, hosts, The Netherlands. The team won all three matches by a combined score of 146-53.

Cariaga will resume Junior National Team coaching duties later this summer as head coach of the USA under-23 7s team. The team will compete at the annual Rugbytown 7s tournament in Glendale, Colorado over August 19-21 with the primary objective of identifying and providing development opportunities to future Olympians.

Former Life U Captain, Mitch Wilson (2015-2019), was instrumental for the New England Free Jacks as the club achieved the best record in Major League Rugby in 2022. For his efforts, Wilson was named to the All-MLR First Team and won the Free Jack's Minuteman Award which is given to the player who best represents the values of the organization. Wilson's MLR form in 2022 resulted in an invite to the USA Eagle's World Cup qualifier assembly and a start vs the French Barbarians which the Eagles won 26-21.

Also earning All-MLR First Team honors was former Life U Graduate Assistant Coach and Men's Club player, Dylan Fawsitt (2014-2016). The "Butcher", as he is known, was immense for Rugby United New York in a playoff run which saw the club crowned MLR champions in 2022.

Harley Wheeler (2016-2019) rounded out the list of MLR superlatives, the current NOLA Gold wing earning an All-MLR honorable mention.

AJ MacGinty (2012-2015) and Cam Dolan (2009-2013) represented the USA in a two match series vs Chile in hopes of earning qualification for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.  In the end, the USA came up two points shorts in aggregate score but MacGinty, the team captain and top points scorer in the series, and Dolan, USA's all-time winningest player, were standouts in the effort.

MacGinty, after six incredible seasons with  English Premiership side Sale Sharks, will be moving onto Bristol Bears next season where he will reunite with former Connacht Head Coach, the renowned Pat Lam. Dolan continues to ply his trade in the MLR at NOLA Gold.
