Club Rugby Pulls Away in Second Half for 38-18 Road Win Over HTX
Men's Club Rugby / 09.18.22
HOUSTON, Tx. ---- The Life University men's club rugby team advances to a 2-0 start after an impressive road win against Rugby HTX 38-18, Saturday afternoon.
Life U started the scoring early with a try from Chris Rossouw to go up 7-0. HTX pulled within one after two penalties by Kian Meadon, but the lead was extended to 14-6 after a try and conversion from
Jacques Odendaal before the end of the half.
The action picked up in the second half, as the two teams traded scores early, with Rossouw scoring first and Nick Boyer from HTX answering with a try of his own to make it 19-11. As Life attempted to pull away with a third try from Rossouw and conversion from Odendaal, HTX once again answered to get the score back to within eight. That was as close as the match would be, as two more scores from Life, one from
Fred Henry-Ajudua and another from Rossouw, put it out of reach.
Rossouw finished with four tries and Odendaal had four conversions and a try of his own to highlight the strong offensive performance from Life U.
Head coach
Blake Bradford shared his thoughts afterwards stating, "We set ourselves the goal to go to Houston and get a bonus-point win and we managed to do just that. It was an extremely hot day, but I'm very proud of the effort of our men. With so many disruptions to our training week this past week and the entire fall season, I'm proud of the grit and resiliency the men have shown throughout."
The men's club rugby team will return to action on Saturday, September 24, as they welcome NOLA Gold for the team's home opener at Lupo Family Field at 1 PM.
