Men's Wrestling Finishes Fourth in Strong Field at Missouri Valley Invite

MARSHALL, Mo. --- The No. 2 Life University men's wrestling team competed at the Missouri Valley Invite over the last two days, compiling eight placers to record 117 team points and a fourth-place finish.
The Running Eagles' best result of the weekend came from the capable hands of graduate student
Asher Eichert, finishing third in the 184 lbs. weight class. An 18-3 tech fall victory in the first round followed by a pair of decisions advanced him to the quarterfinals where he suffered his only loss of the weekend. In the consolation bracket, four-straight victories over ranked opponents saw him lay claim to third place. All victories came by decision with them being over opponents ranked 20th, 17th, 14th, and 4th.
At 149 lbs.,
Francis Morrissey also had a great weekend bringing the team another third-place individual result. After a first round bye, Morrissey recorded two straight victories by decision to propel himself into the quarterfinals where, like his teammate, he suffered his only loss. Morrissey won four-straight matches in the consolation bracket to earn his placement, three of the victories coming by decision and one by medical forfeit.
The only other top five placement came from
Jordan Mitchell at 141 lbs. His day started with a dominant 18-0 tech fall before a compelling upset over the 10th ranked wrestler by decision kept him on the winners side of the bracket. After a loss in the quarterfinals, a 9-1 major decision and decision victory pushed him forward to the consolation semis. A sudden victory loss there bumped him tp the fifth-place match where he ended his weekend with a 2-1 tiebreaker win.
Head coach
Omi Acosta spoke on how the team performed and the outlook going forward, "Really proud of the team effort. We had some true freshmen place which is a good sign for the program. Really looking forward to see how we can get better in the next few weeks."
