Women's Wrestling Clinches MSC Regular Season Title with Clean Sweep at Warrior Duals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. --- Competing at the Warrior Duals today, the Life University women's wrestling team went a perfect 3-0 to claim their second-straight Mid-South Conference Regular Season Title.
The first dual of the day set the Running Eagles (16-1, 7-0 MSC) against No. 10 Indiana Tech (18-6, 1-1 MSC). A decision victory by
Peyton Prussin was sandwiched between a pair of bonus point losses to see Life U down 9-3 after three bouts.
A pin by
Estefany Garcia in 2:04 swung momentum in Life U's favor, the team running off three straight victories in the bonus to take the lead for good. Garcia's victory was followed by tech falls from
Sarah Savidge 10-0 and
Riley Dalrymple 12-1. A decision victory by Jamilah MccBryde followed by a pin in just 1:05 by her sister, Latifah, put the match out of contention, 24-12. Close, decision losses followed in the final two bouts to see the final of 26-18.
Immediately after the end of the first match, the Running Eagles moved to mat three for their match against (RV) Lourdes (1-6, 0-4 MSC).
A pair of forfeits to Life U and one loss saw the score at 10-4 after three bouts. Garcia followed up her impressive performance in the first match with another pin, this one coming in only 1:02 at 123 lbs. With almost identical results from the previous dual, Savidge and Dalrymple again posted a pair of tech fall victories, this time by scores of 10-0 and 11-1, respectively. J. McBryde recieved a forfeit at 143 lbs. before L. McBryde posted a quick, 10-0 tech fall. A Stephany Villalobos pin in just 1:01 and yet another forfeit at 191 lbs., saw the Running Eagles come out on top 42-5.
The final match of the day for Life U matched the team up against (RV) Sienna Heights.
Similar to the Lourdes dual, Life U received four victories by forfeit, those coming at 101, 123, 143, and 191 lbs. The match also saw some of the quickest pins of the entire event,
Kory Phillips downing her opponent at 116 lbs in just 20 seconds, while L. McBryde bested her with her second pin of the day, this time in just 0:19.Â
Savidge and Dalrymple went a perfect 3-0 on the day for quick tech falls, while the only other victory of the match came from
Jasmine Godinez, seeing the dual end 41-4 in Life U's favor.
Next up, the Running Eagles compete in the Warrior Open in the same gym tomorrow, competition starting at 9 AM.
