Women's Soccer Stuns SCAD 1-0 in Double Overtime

NEED TO KNOW:

Score: Life U 1, SCAD 0 (F/2OT)

Records: Life U, 14-4-2; SCAD, 17-2-2

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Life U women's soccer team prevailed in the second overtime period as Jeanne Brigand's 105th minute strike lifted the Running Eagles past SCAD on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Savannah, Ga.

The game was a defensive battle for Life U all the way up until the 105th minute, when Brigand got her foot to one from a Sacha Millward cross and placed it far left of the SCAD goalkeeper's outstretched arms.

In the early going, Life U's defense set the tone for the contest as SCAD was able to produce six shot attempts over the first 45 minutes but Grace Staunton was able to make three saves to keep the Bees off the board going into the break.

The second half belonged more to the Bees as they outshot Life U, 11-3, over the final 45 minutes of regulation, but again Staunton was able to make five saves to force the game into overtime.

After both sides were held scoreless for the first overtime period, that set the stage for Brigand's late heroics as the junior from Vannes, France notched her fifth goal of the season.

Overall, Life U totaled just nine shots compared to SCAD's 23. However, they held a 1-0 lead in the only column that mattered.

Up next, the Running Eagles will continue to make history as they will travel on Nov. 28th to Foley, Ala. to compete in the Round of 16 in the NAIA National Championship Tournament .

TURNING POINT:

- Brigand's 105th minute strike marked the 14th goal of the midfielder's career and fifth of the 2023 season.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

- Aside from Brigand, goalkeeper Grace Staunton added eleven more saves and delivered her tenth shutout of the season.
