Men's Wrestling Cruises to 38-3 WIn over DII Newberry

NEWBERRY --- The #2 Life University men's wrestling team competed against DII Newberry College over the weekend, crushing the Wolves on the road 38-3 to move to 3-0 on the year.
Life U (3-0, 2-0 ACC) stays undefeated in dual play after opening the season with two dual wins against Keiser and St. Thomas last month.
The match started with 125 lbs as the Running Eagles fell behind after a tough 10-3 decision fell in favor of the Wolves. At 133 Antonio Saldate earned a 0-0 decision to get the team back in the dual 3-3. The only tech fall of the day came in the next bout, Tyree Johnson handling his opponent by a score of 18-1. At 149 lbs., Reese Jones pulled off an impressive pin over former NCAA All-American Devan Moore. Another decision victory at 157 saw Alex Couto come out on top in a 12-6 decision to push the lead further in favor of Life U.
In the middle of the dual, Stephen Villalobos and Riley Smucker both earned pins to move the score to an impressive 29-3. The final three wins of the day were all decisions as Kyle Homet won his bout with a sudden victory 12-9 score. Two more tough decisions were won as Demarco Lee won 6-2 while Zane Lanham won 5-3 to close out the dual with a dominant 38-3 final score.
Up next, the Running Eagles return home for their final dual of the calendar year, facing Brewton Parker in the Upper Gym on Wednesday, Dec. 6th at 7 PM.
