Competitive Cheer Concludes Season in SSAC Championships

Mobile, Ala. --- The Life University competitive cheer team posted a season best routine score during the Southern States Conference Championships Saturday, bringing home a third-place finish.
Life U finished the event with an overall score of 78.76, finishing behind the University of Mobile, Point University and Florida Memorial University. The Running Eagles opened with a strong preliminary round score of 83.38 trailing third placed Mobile by just .12 points. In the the final round, which accounted for 75% of the final score, Life U scored a 76.76 for the final average of 78.76.
Head coach Sara Killough shared her thoughts on conference championships, stating, "In round one of the championships, the team performed our strongest routine of the season. It was executed beautifully and with so much heart. The top four teams were all within one point of each other, which made for a very exciting final round. In the end, our final round of the day was not as strong of a performance as the first."
The second-year coach then reflected on the season, saying, "As we close out the season, I'm incredibly proud of my team. We faced a lot of setbacks this year. Every single time a new obstacle popped up we rallied as a program, adjusted, and just kept climbing. This season, we developed grit and a strong work ethic. These key takeaways will prove to be invaluable as we build and grow the spirit programs here at Life University."
In addition to the championships, the 2023 SSAC Competitive Cheer award winners were announced throughout the weekend with two Running Eagles earning All-Conference honors, three athletes receiving All-Academic honors, and one individual getting nominated to the Champions of Character Team.
Rebekah Chavez, Avery Hodor and Angel Priebe earned All-Academic honors while Victoria Crouchet was placed on the Champions of Character Team.
