Men's Wrestling Show Well at Cumberland Open

LEBANON, Tenn. --- Following a successful Friday night, the Life University men's wrestling team put together another great day Saturday in Tennessee at the Cumberland Open, the team having 11 Running Eagles earn individual placements.
Starting at 125 lbs.,
Brandon Orum had another great day going 3-0 on his way to a first place finish with all of his victories coming in the bonus. He started with a pin before earning a 17-0 tech fall in the semifinals. Another pin, this time in the first period, saw Orum end his day with a win.
The 149 lbs. bracket saw another Life U win, this one being claimed by
Francis Morrissey. A pair of pins that took a combined 5:47 saw the redshirt sophomore advance to the quarterfinals. Decision victories in the both the quarters and semis 8-4 and 4-1, respectively earned Morrissey a spot in the final. Against a 25th-ranked opponent, Morrissey came out on top in a 3-2 decision to take the title.
The 157 lbs. bracket was especially good to Life U, a pair of Running Eagles making it to the title bout against each other which they did not contest.
Jaden New went 4-0, with all of his victories coming via decisions.
Alexander Couto started with a 16-0 tech fall and 6-3 decision before advancing to the final bout with two straight wins by medical forfeit.
Myles Starke provided the final top placement, winning the 184 lbs. class. The redshirt junior started his day with a high scoring, 24-8, tech fall victory before another tech fall, 20-3, in the quarterfinals saw him continue his advance. Continuing his streak of tech falls, Starke again earned bonus points in the semis, this time by a score of 18-1 to earn a spot in the final bout. In the final, Starke again dominated his opponent in a 16-1 tech fall to complete his perfect tech fall day.
