Life U Swim Takes Second Place at Viking Classic

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Life University men's and women's swim team competed in their first meet of 2024 at the Viking Classic this Saturday.
With two other teams in attendance, Dora Reizinger started off early finishing in first place in the Women's 500 yard freestyle (5:44.05), taking the victory by five seconds from a Berry swimmer. The Running Eagle also grabbed a first place win in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.24) giving the swimmer a successful weekend.
Mate Dort picked up three first place wins for the Running Eagles, winning the 500 yard freestyle (4:46.062), in the 200 yard freestyle(1:48.28), and the 200 yard fly (1:58.38).
For the men's team, Bence Dort was also able to add a first place win in the 200 yard backstroke (1:52.76) by also breaking the Berry pool record too.
Overall, the men came in second place out of three teams and also snagged a first place win in the 400 yard relay which included swimmers Bence Meresz, Bence Dort, Rasmus Petersen, and Mate Dort.
For the women's team, Megan Cronje was able to claim first in the 400 yard IM (5:10.97) and Kyleigh Shonk grabbed two first place wins in the 50 yard backstroke (29.05) and the 100 yard freestyle (57.45).
Overall, the women came in second place out of the three two other teams in attendance. Sophia Carneiro also broke the team record in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:04.14.
"It was a very good meet." Head Coach Tom Keer said. "We swam tired, but both men and women showed character in how they competed."
Up next, the Running Eagles will be back in Marietta next Saturday, January 20 at the Cobb County Pool to swim their last home meet of the season to take on Thomas University (Ga.).
