UNDEFEATED: Men's Wrestling Conclude 2023-24 Dual Schedule

MARIETTA, Ga. --- Three Running Eagles recorded pins as the No. 2 Life University men's wrestling team concluded its dual season with a 48-0 victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Truett McConnell Wednesday night in the Upper Gym.
The match started with a double forfeit at 125 lbs before Brandon Orum's tech fall victory began the night for Life U. At 141, Joshua Denson also recorded the first pin of the night to push the lead to 11-0. After the pin, Life U then recorded three consecutive tech falls, Avant Stepherson earned a 19-4 TF, at 157 lbs. Alex Couto tabbed a 16-1 TF and then the next match at 165 lbs Steven Villalobos grabbed a 23–7 technical fall. The team's next pin came at 174 lbs. as Riley Smucker took his opponent down in only 1:40.
With the score sitting at 32-0, the Running Eagles' domination continued at 184 lbs. match, Tyler Brandt bested his opponent by a score of 13-4 for a major decision. At 197 lbs, Michael Gibson controlled his opponent on the way to a pin of his own in 2:05 to push the advantage to 42-0. In the final match of the day, National Champion, Zane Lanham won via forfeit to conclude the evening.
Head coach Omi Acosta spoke on the team's success "First, I want to thank God for the ability to compete and allowing us to wrestle without injures. Second, I want to give a big shout out to all of the Seniors for what they've contributed to the program."He then continued, "We're going to continue to get better and we will now prepare for next weekend's conference championship. LUCHA!"
The Running Eagles return to the mat next weekend for the AAC Conference Championships.
