Club Rugby Earns win at Old Blue

09.16.24

MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University men's club rugby team opened their season with a tough win over Old Blue.  The first score was tabbed early on as Matt Reed blocked a kick before scooping the ball and scoring in the 23rd minute.

The Running Eagles carried the 7-0 lead into the halftime break. In the second half, Old Blue struck first, but missed the conversion, 7-5. Life U then scored relatively quick,  finding the try area after a scrum in the 57th minute. It was a Julian Roberts line break that opened the field before Harley Davidson dove under the posts.

After another successful conversion, the Running Eagles tallied their final score of the game with just six minutes remaining as a slick one-handed grab was scored from Karch Hoffman.

Individually, Dario Ports Sanchez converted all three of Life U's kicks.

Assistant Head Coach Benny Mateialona spoke fondly about the weekend, stating, "Lots of learning lessons and work to do from this match. I am proud of the guys to come away with a win against an experienced Old Blue side, especially after difficult travels."

Up next, the men's rugby team returns home to play Old Blue at Lupo Family Field next weekend in a 8pm nighttime showdown.
