MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University men's rugby team opened their 2024-25 season with a convincing win over Walsh University on Lupo Family Field Saturday afternoon.
The Running Eagles took some time before scoring in their first try of the season as it was a kicking battle for the first 20 minutes before Seth Kros finally broke through to score the first try of the game. An ensuing Bradley Crane conversion moved the score to 13-6. Life U quickly scored after play resumed as Jordan Vassel broke through to score the next try of the contest in the 25th minute. The two teams traded kicks in the middle third before another huge break from Vassel led to another score and conversion in the 34th minute.
Continuing to control the pace of play the Running Eagles were able to turn one last possession into a try in the first half as a lineout turned into a Seth Kros maul and score at the halftime break. Crane's conversion sent the teams to halftime, 35-17.
In the second half, Walsh University struck first, but the initial offense wasn't sustained as the two teams traded possessions and failed to score more than one try each in the final 40 minutes of action.
Individually, Bradley Crane kicked to goal twice and converted all five of Life U's conversions.
Up next, the men's rugby team travels face Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD next weekend for a 2 pm showdown.
