MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's rugby team rolled to a resounding win over the Macaws of Millenia Atlantic on Saturday afternoon. Life U controlled the contest from start to finish, opening the scoring within the first 60 seconds and never looking back.
It was just fifty seconds into the match when the Running Eagles put up the first try of the game. After quickly pinning the Macaws back near their own try line, Adam Chadwick punched in the first of many tries on the day for the home squad. Jonty Lee knocked through the conversion, making it 7-0.
Life U doubled the lead ten minutes later, with a long run from Jordan Vassel in the 16th minute of action. Lee once again knocked through the try conversion, giving the home squad a 14-point lead midway through the first half.
Chris Cloete added his name to the try list, punching home the third try of the match for the Running Eagles with under 15 left in the half. Life U carried a 21-0 lead into the break, controlling all the momentum in the contest.
Out of the half, the Running Eagles picked up right where they left off. Set up by Cloete and Chadwick, Zander Basson went on for the first try of the second half in the 47th minute. Lee remained perfect on the day as the score line moved to 28-0.
Off the bench, Leo Venables added a try of his own in the 55th minute as the Running Eagles continued to secure the contest.
The Macaws finally got on the board in the 63rd minute and knocked through the try conversion to make it 35-7. However, Jayden Ramsey responded with a try of his own in the 74th minute, moving the lead back to 35. Aaron Faison added to the lead just over two minutes later, breaking away for a 50+ yard try. Ramsey and Faison left one final mark on the contest when Ramsey dropped off a pass to Faison, who scored the final try of the contest.
At the final whistle, seven different Running Eagles scored tries and Life U closed out the game with a 54-7 victory.
