MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University Men's Rugby team came up just short in a tightly contested D1A battle, falling 18–15 to Lindenwood despite a strong start and late push.
The Running Eagles struck first, as Adam Chadwick crossed the line just two minutes into the match to give Life early momentum. The Lions responded in the 12th minute to take the lead before the visitors powered through in the 22nd to keep the pressure on. Going into the break, the Running Eagles trailed 12–5.
In the second half, the Lions were first to score with a penalty conversion in the 47th minute. The Running Eagles answered in the 62nd minute when Douw Wessels broke through for a crucial try, and Jonty Lee added the conversion to cut into the lead. Life then leveled the contest after Lee knocked through a penalty goal, tying the match at 15–15.
After that, Lindenwood delivered the decisive blow with a late score to take an 18–15 lead. The Running Eagles had multiple opportunities in the closing minutes to respond, pushing deep into attacking territory, but were unable to convert as time expired.
Up next, the Running Eagles travel to St. Thomas next weekend for a road contest.
