MARIETTA, Ga. – The Life University men's rugby team defended Lupo Family Field early Saturday afternoon, taking down the Red Wolves of Arkansas State, 31-14. It was a slow offensive showing from both squads in the first half before the offense picked up in the second.
The Running Eagles were the first to strike on the day. The 26th minute, Seth Kros scored the first try of the day, followed by a successful conversion from Jonty Lee. Celebrating his senior day, Adam Chadwick added a late try in the 38th minute, pushing the lead to 12-0. The Life U defense had a strong showing in the first 40 minutes, allowing 0 points to the visitors.
Out of the break, Life U was awarded penalty try in the 49th minute after multiple attempts on the try line. The Red Wolves responded just over ten minutes later with a try of their own and a successful conversation, cutting the lead to 19-7. The momentum swung completely to the visitors, as Arkansas State added another try and successful conversion, making it 19-14.
However, the remaining minutes belong to Life U. On his senior day, Ignacio Munoz recorded a crucial try to give the Running Eagles breathing room. Fellow senior Leon Best closed out the contest with one final try, followed by a successful try from Jonty Lee. Life U closed the contest with a 31-14 senior day win.
