Coach Tre Horton enters his fourth season as an Assistant Coach at Life University after joining the program in 2021. He serves as the Director of Operations for Men’s Wrestling Life University, Director of all Wrestling Camps, and the Director for the Lucha Regional Training Center (RTC). With over twenty years of experience in the sport, Coach Horton brings deep knowledge and leadership as a former athlete, coach, and program builder.
A proud product of Peachtree Ridge High School, he wrestled under Coach Danny Sinnott and earned recognition as a Georgia Greco-Roman State Champion, two-time Freestyle State Placer (2nd and 3rd), GMVWA Tournament Champion, and two-time 5A GHSA State Finalist and Placer. He went on to compete at Brewton-Parker College at 157 lbs, placing 3rd at the Georgia Collegiate State Championships before a career-ending injury.
Coach Horton began coaching in 2013 and has made an impact at every level of the sport. His coaching accomplishments include:

He played a key role in Life University’s historic 2024 NAIA National Duals Championship, the first in program history. In addition to his on-mat responsibilities, Coach Horton supports team organization, recruiting efforts, video analysis, and Olympic styles training. He also assists in the management of team travel and has led practices and competitions in the absence of the Head Coach.
Before joining Life University, he coached at Peachtree Ridge High School and served as the Wrestling Director for Peachtree Ridge Youth Wrestling, where he introduced the sport to over 400 youth athletes and helped build the largest feeder program in school history. During his tenure, he developed the program’s first two female High School All-Americans, marking a milestone in the school’s wrestling legacy. He also led the youth programs at Commerce Youth Wrestling and Jackson County Youth Wrestling, developing the sport throughout northeast Georgia. In 2021, he was named Gwinnett County Assistant Coach of the Year.
Coach Horton is the CEO of Horton Press and author of multiple wrestling resources including Youth Wrestling 101: Build the Wrestling Program Your Community Needs(https://www.hortonpress.com/youth-wrestling-101) and The Wrestling Journal(https://www.hortonpress.com/wrestling-journal). His books have been placed in the hands of over 4,000 athletes and coaches, helping programs and individuals grow through intentional development and structure. He is also the creator and host of The Wrestling Core Podcast, which delivers practical tools and insights to wrestlers, coaches, and parents.
He holds USA Wrestling Copper, Bronze, and Silver certifications and completed the NWCA College Coaching Leadership Academy. He also holds a Project Management Certificate from Georgia Tech, a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Life University, and technical certifications including CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and ITIL Foundations.
Born in California and raised in Pennsylvania and Georgia, Tre has called Georgia home since 2000. Outside of wrestling, he enjoys video games, board games, and spending time with his family. His coaching philosophy centers around discipline, leadership, and the holistic development of athletes. He is committed to building strong individuals and fostering team culture rooted in the Lucha lifestyle.
